MEXICO CAMPS

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, July 26. W. D. Baillie said thorough preparations were being made by European nations for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Most countries had established almost permanent training camps at high altitudes to accustom their athletes to the rarified atmospheric conditions that they would encounter in Mexico City and were doing a great deal of medical research into the matter.

New Zealanders, competing against such intensive research and training methods, could scarcely hope to equal the performances of runners so prepared, under such conditions. In fact, this was one of the few countries in the world that had no organised high-altitude camps. Nevertheless Baillie has as his ultimate aim the 1968 Olympic marathon.
