£1.75m Sewerage Loan Wanted
The Local Authorities Loans Board’s sanction of a loan of £1.75m for the third-stage reticulation programme will be sought by the Christchurch Drainage Board.
Mr P. J. McWilliam, the chief engineer, said that loan authority was necessary to ensure continuity of the board's sewer reticulation programme.
He listed the priority areas and estimated costs as: Avonhead. £117,000; Burwood, £153,500; Southshore, £88,200; Clifton-Scarborough, £60,000; Harewood. £112,000; Wainoni, £36,500: Sockburn. £106,700; Hornby, £292,900; Islington, £45,000. Next, there were miscellaneous areas the board had agreed should be dealt with as demand and occasion arose and as approved by the board. They were intended to cover as far as possible all the remaining unsewered areas within the urban boundary. These were listed by Mr McWilliam as follows:
Bower avenue area, £7920; Carmen road (balance), £10,000: Cashmere road, near hospital, £6000; Centaurus road, £5000: Chapmans road, £42,200; Cranford street, north of McFaddens road, £11,450; Dry Bush road, £3750; Dyers Pass road, £1000: Fifield terrace extension, £27,400; Grahams road-Memor-la] avenue, £17,400; Hunter terrace, north of Malcolm avenue, £6350: Inwoods road area, £42,890; Kearneys road, £3500; Lake Terrace road, £20,000: Linwood avenue-St. John’s street, £11.000; Lyttel-ton-Sumner road, £3750; Maces road area, £128,000; McCormacks Bay area. £15,000; Major Hornbrook road, £6500; North Beach (Waimairi Beach area extension, £44,010: Northcote industrial area, £54,023; Pacific street, £6000; St. Martins Valley, £15,000; Staunton street area, £11,200; Taylors Mistake. £48.750: Templetons road, £3750: Travis road, £8880; Wairoa street area, £2500; Wigram industrial area, £123,480; Withells Island, £4200; Yaldhurst road( balance), £lO,OOO.
