TRANSPORT FARES

‘Unfair Spread Of Increase’ (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 23. Judge K. G. Archer, the transport charges authority, said today the Wellington City Council’s increase in urban transport fares had not been spread in a fair and equitable manner and he ruled the Kelburn cable car concession tickets should be reduced from 4s 6d to 3s 6d The Judge heard an appeal by the Victoria University Students’ Association against increased urban transport fares. He said there was insufficient justification for a general concession for students, as the cost of living was going up and students had to accept this. The association had requested that its members be granted concessions oh public transport equal to the concession rate that applied before increases made on November 9. 1964. The public would not support a general concession for students, Judge Archer said.
