AUSTRALIAN WOOL CLIP
Recovery Mav Be Prolonged (N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, July 22The prolonged drought conditions in Australia may reduce next season’s wool clip by about 10 per cent compared with that of 196465, to some 4.5 m bales. The quality of the wool also may be adversely affected. This forecast, by three leading Australian brokers, was reported in the Commonwealth Economic Committee’s wool and fibres supplement. The Australian clip is unlikely to recover to the present volume of just over 5m bales for at least two years, the supplement said. The first official forecast of next season’s clip is expected to be announced within the next few weeks. In New Zealand, the study group on marketing, established last year by the New Zealand Wool Board, had now set up working parties to examine the cause and nrture of price fluctuations and whether they could be contained within the present auction system, the supplement said. Methods of selling other than by auction were also being considered.
