“Dangers Of Democracy”

Sir. —Mr Varian J. Wilson's latest effusion indicates his confusion between ends and means. His candid admission of “My country right or wrong” shows that he does not know where he is going or where he wants to go. His slogan is the same as the party politician: my party right or wrong. I suggest that he concentrate on capturing one trench at a time by cleaning up the party caucus system, which allows the crawlers to hide behind the caucus vote over which the electors have no control. The secret vote is mightier than his pen.— Yours, etc., W. B. BRAY. Leeston, July 22, 1965.

Mr R. M. McCallum, Shaw Savill Line’s superintendent engineer for New Zealand, will retire today. His successor is Mr R. E. Evans, formerly the Northern Star’s chief engineer.—(P.A.)
