PRIZE ABERDEEN ANGUS FAILS AT STUD
<N Z P A -Reuter-Copyright) AUBURN (Alabama), July 21 Lindertis Evulse, a prize Aberdeen Angus bull which proved impotent as a breeder, is going under the knife a second time with surgeons hopeful they can enable him to beeome a father. Bought in Perth. Scot- ’ land, two years ago for a record 176,400 dollars by the Black Wateb Farms, of Wappingers Falls. New York, poor Lindertis proved a dud at stud. It was a blow to his owners, but the bull—-
now 3) years old—was insured. Lloyd’s, of London, paid out 176,400 dollars when Lindertis was unable to produce one calf during a six-month guarantee period. The costly animal underwent one operation designed to make him potent, but it failed. A team of surgeons and veterinarians headed by Dr. James Hicks, head of the University of Alabama’s medical school, will try again tomorrow, at the Auburn University medical centre.
But according to doctors, he is suffering from an internal blockage, which surgery can correct If tt three-and-a-half-hour operation is successful, Lloyd’s will be repaid its money, and Dr. Ronald Walker, a veterinarian assisting In the surgery, will receive what could be one of the highest surgical fees ever—a one-third interest In all the calves Lindertis produces for the next two years. There have been many theories of why Lindertis proved impotent. Some said he was inexperienced or nervous, others that he had a psychological problem.
