Greenstone Found

(N.Z. Preus Association > WELLINGTON, July 20. The greenstone boulder missed from a Stokes Valleychurch last week is in a schoolboy’s stone collection. The greenstone, valued between £2OO and £3OO, was missed from the wall of St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Stokes Valley, two weeks ago. It was an heirloom of the Ngatiwaiwai tribe, and was presented to the church by Mrs I. P. Feary, of Stokes Valley, a descendant of the chieftain ess. When Mrs Keys, of Taita drive. Lower Hutt, read last Friday of the disappearance, she realised the missing stone was the last addition to her grandson’s stone collection and notified the vicar. The boy, Stephen Keys, a pupil of Taita College, is a keen collector of stones and rocks. He writes overseas in pursuit of his hobby, and recently received a rock from Alaska. Apparently one of Stephen’s friends was walking past St. Philip’s Church when he noticed a green coloured stone lying beside the building. He took it home and gave it to Stephen. Today the vicar, the Rev. R. H. S. Smith took the stone to Mrs Feary who confirmed it as the missing greenstone.

£lm Saved. Depositors’ funds at the Wellington Trustee Savings Bank passed the £1 million mark on Monday. —(P.A.).
