SURPLUS DRUGS
£2OOO Worth Collected The first drive for surplus drugs by the Christchurch committee of Medical Aid Abroad has yielded more than £2OOO worth of drugs for Asian hospitals. The collection was made from 60 Christchurch doctors by a group from the Christchurch Round Table Number One. Doctors and chemists on Medical Aid Abroad committee are now sorting the drugs which will be allocated to the most needy of 20 hospitals which have made appeals for assistance.
“This is the first time we have made a direct call for surplus drugs from Christchurch doctors and the results have been most encouraging," said the chairman of Medical Aid Abroad (Mr K. G. !! Heslin). ■ “With the £2500 worth offered and collected while Medical Aid Abroad was being formed, this latest, donation indicates the Canterbury ' medical profession is keen to assist our drive to help less fortunate nations from our surplus.” The new organisation has already sent £2OOO worth of drugs abroad to church hospi- ■ lais in Indonesia and Korea. As soon as the present quantity is cheeked for safety it will be shipped off. Another collection from other doctors not yet visited is now being organised. Mr Heslin said it was hoped to call on all doctors and chemists to collect surplus drugs once every six months. “We are most grateful to the Christchurch Round Table for helping us in this way during this formative . stage,” said Mr Hesliin. 1
