Nelson Yacht For Film
(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, July 19. Several months’ film work in the Pacific Islands will be undertaken by the Nelson yacht, Fitheach Ban. The yacht, owned by Captain A. R. Tregidga, has been chartered by a Melbourne
film unit and left Port Nelson yesterday for Lautoka, Fiji. On board were the owner, his son, Richard, and Brian Kerr, also of Nelson. The Fitheach Ban arrived back in Nelson from Fiji a fortnight ago. lan Sharland, of Nelson, a relative of the owner, said the yacht left Suva for Nelson one morning about a month ago. The film unit arrived in Suva in the afternoon with a proposal only to find Fitheach Ran had sailed for New Zealand. She took 18 days to make the trip back, calling at Raoul Island. As soon as the Tregidgas arrived back in Nelson negotiations with the film unit began and within a fortnight the yacht set sail for Fiji again. Mr Sharland said he thought the units intended to film for television and cinema programmes. Captain Tregidga and Richard will remain with the ship during filming.
Considered one of the most beautiful yachts in the world, the Fitheach Ban is a 50-ton, 83-foot luxury vessel once owned by the famed yachtsman, Colonel Neill, who skippered Sir Thomas Lipton’s Shamrock V in the America’s Cup races.
