OWNING HORSE

Limit Now 4 Parties

The parties to any joint ownership of a horse shall be limited to four in number. This was dedded at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference yesterday. The restriction was necessary to safeguard the sport, said Mr J. Corrigan, who proposed the remit on behalf of the executive. It was in the interests of the sport to have as many persons as possible interested in a horse, said Mr J. F. Wade (Cheviot). “Would the new rule predude the syndication of a high-priced stallion?” asked Mr Wade.

The rule would only apply for racing purposes, said the president (Mr W. H. Roche). A remit from the New Zealand Metropolitan club seeking to prevent remits being brought before annual or special meetings of the conference for three years after two consecutive defeats was lost on a show of hands. Another remit defeated was that of the executive which sought to ban scratchings in legs of doubles, except in special drcumstances, after 9.30 a.m. on the day of a meeting. The right of re-entry can now be applied until 9 a.m. on the second day of a meeting when the first and second days of a meeting are less than 48 hours apart. This remit was sponsored by the Bay of Plenty club. A remit from the Kurow club seeking to change the method of computing stakes for trotters’ races was lost.
