CHAPMAN, Secretary. 7261 NOTICE OF INTENT MINISTRY OF WORKS, NEW ZEALAND TONGARIRO POWER DEVELOPMENT TUNNELS THE Ministry of Works desires to engage Civil Engineering Contracting firms to construct, under three separate contracts, a number of tunnels of different sizes, with a total length of some 23 miles. The tunnels will be part of the Tongarlro Power Development in the central area of the North Island about half way between Auckland and Wellington. Contract No. 1. Whakapapa to Wanganui Tunnels, comprises the excavation and concrete lining of approximately 27,050 feet of 10ft 6in equivalent internal diameter tunnel, 8850 feet of 10ft 9in and 18,400 feet of lift Sin internal diameter circular section tunnel, and the construction of concrete intakes, weirs, and outfall structures. Contract No. 2, Tokaanu Tunnel, comprises the excavation and concrete lining of approximately 18,800 feet of 20ft 9in, 500 feet of 18ft 6in, and 800 feet of 16ft 9in internal diameter tunnel, the excavation and concrete lining of a surge chamber, and the construction of a concrete intake and gate structure. Contract No. 3, Moawhango to Tongariro Tunnel, consist of the excavation and concrete lining of approximately 49,500 feet of 10ft 9fn equivalent internal diameter tunnel and the construction of concrete intake and outfall structures. Contractors are Invited to register their interest in any number of these contracts by replying to this Notice, in writing, to the Secretary, Tenders Board, Ministry of Works, P.O. Box 8015, Government Buildings, Wellington, New Zealand. It is expected that formal documents for Contract No. 1 will be issued to registered contractors in August, 1965. A charge of £NZ2O will be made for each set of documents but will be refunded on receipt of a bona fide tender of the return of tendering documents in good condition. This amount shall be in the form of a cheque drawn on a bank in New Zealand in favour of the "Trust Account, Ministry of Works" and crossed "Account Payee Only." Exchange shall be added where necessary. There will be no further public advertisement inviting tenders for the work described as Contract No. 1. Formal documents for Contracts Nos. 2 and 3 should be available early in September and a public advertisement inviting registration for these contracts is expected to be made in August, 1965. Tenders for Contract Nos. 1, 2 and 3 close in Wellington at 4 p.m on Tuesday, November 16, 1965, with the Secretary, Tenders Board, Ministry of Works, P.O. Box 8015, Wellington, New Zealand.
