Shooting Accidents

Sir, —Two shooting fatalities have been reported in the last few days; and there were,. no doubt, other incidents of a similar but less disastrous nature that did not get into the papers. One never seems to read of any inquiry into the circumstances of these tragic occurences, if only with a view to seeing what might be done to prevent them. After all, the vast majority of these uphappy affairs are clearly due to some lack of observance of normal safety precautions, w’hich, in the handling of 'ethal weapons, is hardly less to be deplored than in the handling of motor vehicles. —Yours, etc., M.T. July 13. 1965.
