STATUS SYMBOL SPRINTS KEENLY

Status Symbol has thrived on recent racing and is ready to make an impression in her open-class debut at Washdyke tomorrow. She was one of the more impressive of the Washdyke candidates which sprinted on the No. 6 grass at Riccarton yesterday. Ridden by her race rider, D. N. Hadfield, Status Symbol ran the last three of five furlongs in 40 2-ssec. The work was done on the No. 6 grass, which ga firm footing after a heavy frost. Apache (Edens) ran six furlongs in Imin 19sec, keeping an even pace to the end. Apache’s stablemates Seminole (A. H. Eastwood) and Shastra (Edens) were on terms ending three furlongs in 40 3-ssec.

Shastra, a half-sister to the good winners, Magician. Writer, and Bagman, will have her first race in the Nursery Handicap at Washdyke tomorrow.

Royal Bid (F. H. Skelton) and Malecite (Mrs Clutterbruck) ran three furlongs in 42sec. Royal Bid appears to be thriving in his preparation for another campaign. Tracey’s Comet (Low) and Canadiana (Mrs Clutterbruck) recorded 41 l-ssec for three furlongs. Aoudo (Collins), a disappointing failure on Saturday, showed characteristic dash by running three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. Mushtara (Swanson) took 42 l-ssec. and Trold (Hadfield) recorded 42sec.
