MID-CANTERBURY SNOW
No Stock Losses Snow, which has been lying on the Mid-Canterbury foothills for more than a weekbesan to thaw yesterday. Farmers said that although many paddocks were covered with between four and six inches of snow, there had been no stock losses. Turnip and swede crops, the mainstay of most farms, had been frozen through and paddock grass completely flattened. No farmers approached yesterday knew of any early lambs suffering because of snow. Most said they were prepared for bad conditions at this time ,of the year.
