Two Players Reach 100 Points For Season

There were no major surprises in the senior Rugby competition on Saturday, although Linwood and New Brighton went close to defeat. The most notable feature of a rather uninspiring twelfth round was the fact that two players passed their individual century of points for the season.

The first to achieve this target was the Old Boys and Canterbury lock, M. J. Millar. He began the round requiring only two points for his century and kicked his first penalty’ goal early in the match against Merivale. D. C. Leary, the University A fullback, who began the match against Marist requiring five points for his century 7, reached his objective 55min after Millar.

He scored a total of 11 points against Marist with his kicking and his total of 106 points is now onlv one behind that of Millar.

Sydenham put up an excellent showing against Linwood and was extremely unlucky to go down by two points. On the run of play it should have won comfortably. A try right on time saved the day for New Brighton in its match against the lowlyrated University B side. However, this was only justice for New Brighton definitely looked the better team. University A maintained its lead in the competition with a convincing win over Marist in the main game at Lancaster Park.

There were only a few minor changes in team positions. Suburbs’ win lifted it

from eighth to sixth while Lincoln College moved up one place, into eighth position Sydenham’s loss to Linwood cost it seventh position, and it is now ninth Results:— University A 26, Marist 6.
