WOMAN FOR TRIAL

Daughter’s Death (N.Z. Frets Association) WHANGAREI, July 2. Te Arahara Adams, aged 26, who appeared before Mr J. R. Herd, S.M., today charged with the manslaughter of her four-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty, reserved her defence and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. A condition of bail was that she make herself available for psychiatric examination. Detective-Sergeant L. F. O’Shea said Adams had told him she heard the child scream and found she had fallen into a both of hot water. However, when he told her of the bruises on the child and asked how they got there, she said she had done it with a “bat” because the child was disobedient. He alleged she then said: “I put her in the bath as a lesson.”
