Certificate desirable. Experience in all aspects of highway construction and maintenance and ability to control and organise subordinate staff essential. Salary up to £1695 according to qualifications and experience. Qualifications: Diploma in Agriculture or Farm Manage, ment is desirable, but not essential. Experience in farm and livestock management, construction and maintenance of farm buildings, operation and maintenance of farm machinerv, farm drainage and roadlng. Organising ability and capacity to control staff essential. Duties: Over all supervision of all farm and maintenance staff at the station. Co-operation with scientists in planning animal husbandry and farm management experimental projects. 2584—OVERSEER. MINISTRY OF WORKS, HARI HARI. Salary within the range £lO4O to £lOBO according to qualifications and experience. Duties: Highway construction and maintenance (including sealing and allied works along the Hokitika to Waiho section of S.H. 6. This involves supervision of Departmental forces and use of hired plant. Also Inspection supervision of works carried out by Treasury contracts. N.R.B. Overseers Certificate is desirable. A 3-bedromed house is available, and a remote allowance of £35 10s per annum is payable for a married appointee of £l7 15s per annum is payable for a single appointee Limited overtime. 2592—TRAINING OFFICER (MALE OR FEMALE), DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, BRAEMAR HOSPITAL AND TRAINING SCHOOL. Salary up to £lOl5 p.a. Commencing salary and maximum according to qualifications and experience. Maximum salary for applicants without the Training Officers Certificate of Competence is £957 p.a. The appointee will be required to work with mentally subnormal children and the position would suit a person with teaching, kindergarten. nursery play centre or nursery experience. Commencing salary up to £2280 according to qualifications and experience. Duties: Research and development in the physics of the sea, mainly in field or underwater acoustics or development and application of modern signal processing techniques in this and allied fields. Qualifications desired: Degree in Physics, preferably with Honours, or good Electrical Engineering Degree. Experience in electronics would be an advantage.

Experience in operation and maintenance of electrical or other rotating plant an advantage. Training will be given for nower station shift operating. Married accommodation available. 2614—COMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN. ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT, DUNEDIN. Salary within the range £974 to £lOl5 p.a. Qualifications desired: electrical trade apprenticeship or equivalent training. Experience in maintenance and installation of manual, automatic and carrier telephone systems; radio and electronic equipment. N.Z. Certificate in Engineering (Telecommunications) or City and Guilds Telecommunication Technicians’ Course to Third Year Level, an advantage for promotion. Applicants without adequate experience may be considered for initial appointment as an Electrical Fitter under training on the Communications staff at £950 or £937. DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AVIATION CAMPBELL ISLAND: EXPEDITION 1965/66 VACANCY NO. 1305: SENIOR lONOSPHERE OBSERVER Senior lonosphere Observer. Salary up to £llOO p.a. Duties: Maintenance and operation of automatic multi-frequency recorder and associated electronic equipment. Qualifications: First Class P.M.G. or equivalent: practical experience in servicing radio and/or electronic equipment; experience in wiring and constructing such equipment; aerial connexion and installation: academic training in radio physics desirable but not essential; ability to operate Morse key desirable. Up to three months’ training will be given at the Geophysical Observatory, Christchurch, before departure. General conditions of service at Campbell Island: Campbell Island is maintained by the Department of Civil Aviation as a Government Scientific Station and is inhabited only by station staff organised as an expedition. Appointment is for about 12 months. The appointee will leave New Zealand late October. 1965. Allowances and furlough: Single men £344 a year, married men £404 a year. Furlough three days for each complete month on the island (for broken periods), or 42 days for a year's sojourn. General: Full medical and dental fitness is essential and it is preferred but not essential that appointees be under 40 years of age.
