Duties: The successful applicant will be responsible to the Senior Mining Engineer (Research and Development) and will be required to instal and operate an extensive electronic instrumentation programme in the stopes of the Mine. The duties will also include any calculations of results and subsidiary tests which may be required. The Research Engineer will be required to apply his results to the operation of the Mine, especially to stoping methods. Qualifications: Applicants should possess a degree in either Engineering or Science with a strong interest in mathematics, physics and electronics/electrical subjects. A higher degree would be an advantage. Higher Academic Degrees: The Company is agreeable to the research work being used to gain higher academic degrees and would encourage such aims. Experience: Previous research experience is essential, preferably in rock mechanics or a similar field. Conditions:. 1. The commencing salary for the position will be in accordance with the Professional Engineers’ Award, plus a variable lead bonus (£l7 7s 6d per week for the month of June). 2. The successful appointee will be eligible to join a non-contributory superannuation scheme after a period of six months’ satisfactory service. 3. Annual holiday leave is five weeks (that is, twentythree working days, plus two days in respect of Anniversary Day and the Queen’s Birthday public holidays, provided such days are worked). 4. Sick leave, if approved by the Company, is granted on frill pay. 5. Thirteen weeks’ long service leave is qualified for after ten years’ service. 6.
