MAGISTRATES COURT Licence Cancelled, Fined £30 For Dangerous Driving

at speeds up to 85 miles an hour after a small car containing six persons, and driven by a 17-year-old youth, was described by a constable in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The youth, Donald Stuart Wilson, a nurseryman, pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving in a manner which might have been dangerous. Mr H. J. Evans convicted him, fined him £3O. and cancelled his driver’s licence for 12 months. Constable R. Barrell told the Court that he was on duty in a patrol car about 11.30 p.m. on April 30 when his attention was drawn to a small car overtaking and attempting to overtake other vehicles in Tuam street and Colombo street He chased the car along Colombo street, Moorhouse avenue, Durham street Tuam street Antigua street St.

Constable Barrell said he estimated the speed of Wilson's car in excess of 45 miles an hour in the town, but in Selwyn street, the patrol car had to increase its speed to between 80 and 85 miles an hour to gain on the accused. He had never been in trouble before and Mr Glue appealed for a limited licence to enable Wilson to drive the 10 miles to his place of employment. DISMISSED A charge of failing to give way against Avon Charlwood Caldow, aged 51, a factory manager, was dismissed. Caldow (Mr R. L. Kerr) pleaded not guilty. The charge arose from an accident on April 11 at the intersection of McFaddens road and Chapter street. Caldow pleaded guilty to a charge of having no warrant of fitness for a trailer and was fined £2. The Magistrate also dismissed a charge of carelessly using a motor-vehicle against Owen Ivan Baillie, aged 15, a metal worker. He was represented by Mr G. R. Lascelles and pleaded not guilty. DISMISSED A charge of falling to yield the right of way on a pedestrian crosing at the intersection of Centaurus and Wilsons roads on April 10 against Frederick James Rice, aged 31, an electrician (Mr J. G. Hutchison) was dismissed. Rice pleaded not guilty to the charge. A charge of failing to stop in half the distance of clear roadway ahead against David Vernon Spicer, aged 30, a stipendiary steward, was dismissed. The charge arose from an accident in Colombo street on April 21. Spicer pleaded not guilty and was represented by Mr P. T. Mahon. (Before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M.) CARELESS USE Stanley John Stuckey, aged 41, a carpenter (Mr L. M. O’Reilly), pleaded not guilty to a charge of using a car carelessly on the Picton-Bluff highway south of the Kowhai river bridge between Kaikoura and Oaro on March 13. He was convicted and fined £B. DISMISSED A charge of carelessly using a motor vehicle in Carmen road on April 20 brought against Russell Thomas Mastin, aged 43. an engineer (Mr O'Reilly), was dismissed. Mastin pleaded not guilty to the charge. (Before Mr K. H. J. Headtfen, S.M.) DISQUALIFIED DRIVER On charges of driving while disqualified on May 5 and June 30, dangerous driving on April 7, and operating a motorvehicle on May 5 which a traffic officer had ordered not to be operated. Graeme Stack, aged 17, an exchange operator (Mr G. T. Mahon) was convicted and remanded to July 8 for sentence. He pleaded guilty to all charges. Sergeant V. F. Townshend said the defendant’s car had collided with another car on the intersection of Moorhouse avenue and Colombo street after he had travelled at 45 miles an hour over the overhead bridge, overtaking two other vehicles. Joyce), was convicted and fined £lO and disqualified from driving for one year on a charge of driving in Maces road on May 5 in a manner which might have been dangerous. He pleaded not guilty. On a charge of failing to wear a safety helmet on the same date he was convicted and ordered to pay costs only. DECISION RESERVED Decision was reserved on a charge against Melva Dulcie Redmond (Mr S. R. Dacre) of falling to give way to the right at the intersection of Bealey avenue, London street, Fitzgerald avenue, and Whitmore street on April 26. She pleaded not guilty. DISMISSED A charge against Gwynth Plat (Mr B. McClelland) of carelessly using a motor-car in Colombo street on April 15, was dismissed. She pleaded not guilty.

THEFT Dulcie Wilson Port, aged 45, unemployed, was convicted and remanded on bail to July 8 for sentence on charges of theft of a social security postal warrant valued at £5 6s on April 22 and forging a social security postal warrant on the same date. She pleaded guilty to both charges.

INDECENT ASSAULT Stanley Edward Hand, aged 54, a labourer, was convicted and remanded on bail to July 8 for sentence on a charge of indecent assault on a 10-year-old girl on June 11. He pleaded guflty. PROBATION BREACH Lucina Bernadette Rees, aged 20, a tol<l operator, was convicted and remanded in custody to July 8 for sentence on a charge of breach of probation at Auckland on June 18. She pleaded guilty. REMANDED Robert Cockburn, aged 19, an apprentice (Mr J. W. Dalmer), was remanded on bail to July 8 on a charge of peeping into a window of a house at 533 Gloucester street on July 1. Peter Ferguson Campbell, aged 27 (Mr J. W. Dalmer), was remanded on bail to July 8 on a charge of receiving cigarettes valued at £5 on July 1 knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Kenneth Donovan Hayward, aged 41, a workman (Mr J. W. Dalmer), was remanded on bail to July 8 on a charge of theft of £2 4s in money by failing to account on April 26. Glenda Louise Allen, aged 38, was remanded on bail to July 14 for the taking of depositions on a charge of using obscene language on June 24.
