Burnside And Taieri Taieri High School, Dunedin dominated the boys’ events and Burnside High School the girls’ events when the annua! winter tournament between the two schools was held in Christchurch yesterday. won thc debating, table tennis, girls’ hockey, and girls basketball, while Taieri won the Rugby, boys’ basketball, boys’ hockey and soccer Greater cohesion in the forwards, and a more experienced set of backs, gave Taieri a deserved win, 15-8, in the Rugbv match after it had lead 12-8 at half-time. G. Greer, L. Anderson and N. Hughes (tries) and T. Porteous (two penalties) scored for Taieri while A. Paterson (try) and R. Walker (a conversion and a penalty) scored for Burnside. *, n , a S ,ose soccer match, Taieri showed superior finish and deserved its 3-2 win. In an exciting boys’ hockey match, A. Gordon played outstandingly and scored Taieri’s only goal in its 1-0 win. Burnside showed a clear superiority in winning the girls’ hockey, 5-2, in the A grade and 3-2, in the B grade. Burnside also won the combined table tennis comfortably, 6-2, with the Canterbury Under-16 champion Marion Rowe, outstanding. Taieri was far too good In the boys’ basketball, E. Pearson scoring 18 points in its 26-12 win, but Burnside thrashed Taieri, 36-8, in the girls’ basketball. Only 25 points, 225-200, separated the two debating teams with Greta Sasse. Burnside, the best of the six speakers.
