TV Transmitter

Sir, —Can someone explain just what is causing the delay in commissioning the Sugarloaf transmitter? Just after Easter we were told that the station would be functioning in 10 weeks. Now we are told it will be some time in August. When that time comes it will be in September. But Auckland, already well served, is being commissioned in late July. Country districts in the province have been without service for nearly three years. The very least they are entitled to is an explanation, and don’t let them tell us all will be peaches and cream when Mount Studholme starts operating. Judging by the Sugarloaf, that will be in 1970.—Yours, etc., BLIZZARD. June 30, 1965. [The regional engineer of the N.Z.B.C. (Mr R. G. Tulloch) said: “The N.Z.B.C. have never stated any definite opening date for the Sugar Loaf transmitter. However, as from approximately July 12, we propose to carry out preliminary tests. These may make it ncessary to interrupt the trade transmission for about 10 days. Prior to these tests announcements will be made over channel 3 to this effect. Depending upon results of these tests Sugar Loaf transmitter may be Operational towards late July or early August.”]
