40 Years With Railways

Mr T. H. Godfrey, manager of the commercial branch of the Railways Department, retired recently after 40 years’ service. Mr Godfrey joined the department as a cadet at New Plymouth in 1925 and later served at stations in the Hawke’s Bay area and at National Park, Ohakune and Wanganui. In 1949 he transferred to the commercial branch at Wellington and two years later became assistant transport licensing officer at Auckland. Appointed a commercial I agent in 1953, he served at Auckland and Wellington until promoted to assistant commercial manager at Wellington in 1959. In 1963 he was appointed to the position of chief commercial officer (recently redesignated commercial manager) in charge of the department’s commercial branch. Mr Godfrey is succeeded by Mr H. Cottier, who has been commercial assistant since 1964.
