LONDON, June 21.
The Prime Minister of Sierra Leone (Sir Albert Margai) has issued a copy of a speech he made to other Commonwealth leaders during the Prime Ministers’ conference. The speech strongly attacks the stand of the “old” Commonwealth members on African problems.
Sir Albert Margai names Australia, Canada, Britain and New Zealand as personally contributing to the “communisation cf Africa” by their lethargy.
Australia’s Prime Minister (Sir Robert Menzies) has already said he does not favour discussions on Rhodesia without a representative of the Rhodesian Government present.
The New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) has also said he regards the Rhodesian problem as one between Britain and Rhodesia. Rhodesia is expected to dominate the conference today. African members have indicated that they are dissatisfied with Britain’s actions on Rhodesia.
The colony’s Premier (Mr Smith) threatened earlier this year to declare independ-
ence immediately if Britain attempted to force a black majority Government. In spite of discussions between British officials and Mr Smith there has been no weakening of the Rhodesian attitude.
