Heavy Damage On Formosa <N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TAIPEII (Formosa), June 20. Thirty-seven people were killed and over 4500 homes demolished in a typhoon which hit south-east Formosa on Friday night. More than 6000 houses are reported to have been damaged. It is expected that the casualty toll and the damage to property will be much higher when complete reports are received. The storm, named Typhoon Dinah, has now degenerated into a tropical depression and was last reported heading toward the sea east of China.

Banana fields and vegetable plantations were reported to have suffered heavy damage. The county’s police chief suffered a broken leg when he was blown out of his jeep while patrolling in the streets.
