Squash AUSTRALIAN TOUR
Two Chch. Nominees
Mrs R. Woodhead and D. R. Preston, of Christchurch Club, are among nominations received by the New Zealand Squash Backets Association for the teams to compete in Australia later this season. Mrs Woodbead, an Australian Importation, has proved herself vastly superior to the Canterbury women and must have a good chance of making the team.
Preston has shown so far this season that he is second only to G. L. Bird (Timaru) in South Island squash. He has put up some good performances against Bird and should be in the running for one of the lower positions in the team. The most notable absentee from the nominees is Bird. He is unavailable this year and his absence might open the way for Preston.
It is proposed to send a team of junior men as well and there have been four nominations made—all from North Island clubs. The nominations are: Men: p. Dlbley, J. Stevens (Remuera), B. J. Rippen (Timaru), J. S. Walker, L. M. O’Neill, L. M. Greene (Hamilton), C. Waugh, V. Hargreaves, A. Ward (Henderson). T. Johnston, G. P. Haddon (Palmerston North), K. K. Green (Jesters, Wellington), D. R. Preston (Christchurch).
Women: A. Goudie (New Plymouth), P. Kidd (Cambridge), B. Tietjens, H. Corporaal (Remuera), M. Meldrum (Palmerston North), M. Waugh, J. Lever, J. M. Legg (Henderson), R. Woodhead (Christchurch), P. Mills (Hamilton). Junior Mon: W. Doerness (Wanganui), B. Tietjens, D. Cotter (Remuera), G. Lynch (Palmerston North).
