POSTING BOXES

New Type Of Plates

The Post Office has a new type of notice plate on trial for mail posting boxes.

With white lettering on a black plastic background, it is attached to the boxes in a chromium-plated frame similar in design to plates used by the British Post Office.

If satisfactory, the new type of plate will be introduced in New Zealand as standard equipment.

This information was given to the National Council of Women by the PostmasterGeneral (Mr Scott) in a let ter read to the Christchurch branch.

He was replying to a remit from the South Canterbury branch asking him to have times of mail clearances on all posting boxes marked in such a way as to be legible at all times. The branch felt that the present system was not readable at night or clear enough for elderly persons or strangers.
