BAN LIFTED BY UNION

Firm’s Decision Unaltered (N.Z. Press Association» WELLINGTON, June 20. Although the union ban had been raised from the stevedoring firm of S. Wood and Son, Ltd., the firm had no intention of returning to the ship cargo preparation side of its business, the ehairman of directors (Mr J. D. Pottinger) said on Saturday. The firm had asked eight of its former 23 workers to return and it understood that five were willing yesterday. A further meeting was to be held on Monday. His firm hoped to be able to continue as ship repairers and boatbuilders, and in allied work, said Mr Pottinger. The Union Steam Ship Company, the Patent Slip Company, and William Cable and Company, Ltd., together with another stevedoring firm, would, he understood, be taking other shipwrights formerly employed by his company.
