FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A cold front is passing eastwards across northern areas of the North Island, and a ridge of high pressure is advancing across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson.—Light to moderate north to north-west winds, occasionally fresh in exposed places about Cook Strait, fine with frosts again tonight in many places; mild afternoon temperatures. Outlook: fine. Buller and Westland.—Light north-easterlies to moderate south-westerlies later; partly cloudy, with a few scattered light showers at times; long fair periods, moderate temperatures. Outlook: cloudy, with light showers. -
