Satisfactory Results

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 13.

The Minister of Forests (Mr Gerard( told Parliament that satisfactory results had been seen this year under the Government’s forestry scheme. Since January, 35 applications to plant more trees had been approved under the new provision of the scheme. These applications involved about 2000 acres. Under the new scheme, many applications were for larger areas than requested under the former plan. Mr Gerard compared this year’s results with last year’s —about 70 applications involving 3000 acres. ; The Minister was replying 'to Mr H. E. L. Pickering (Govt., Rangiora), who asked what achievements had followed the Government’s encouragement to farmers to ' plant more trees for shelter, [for conservation, or in farm ' woodlots.
