Locked In Bank Three girl employees were ! locked in an Auckland bank on Friday afternoon. They I were in a cloakroom when the Australia and New Zea- ; land Batik on the corner of High street and Vulcan lane (was locked for the week-end at 5.30 p.m. and a key to the main door usually kept inside was missing. They waved from a window to two policemen, told them of their plight and said a bank officer would probably be found in the hotel next door. Just before closing time at the hotel the police found the bank officer who had the key. Political Ambitions The chairman of the International Wool Secretariat and the chairman of the Australian Wool Board, Sir William Gunn, may enter politics. The chairman of the New Zealand Wool Board, Mr J. Acland. said in Christchurh yesterday on his return from overseas that he understood Sir William Gunn was a candidate for selection by the Country Party for a seat in Queensland. The selection of a candidate for next year's Australian elections is expected to be made about the end of this month. Cloudy And Warm The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cloudy and warm. At 6 a.m., the temperature at Harewood was 42 degrees, dropping to 41 degrees at 9 a.m., but rising to 55 degrees at midday. The maximum was reached at 1 a.m., when 63 degrees was recorded. By 3 p.m., the temperature had dropped to 53 degrees. The temperature on the Government Life building at 4 p.m. was 58 degrees The winds were light northeast and easterly in the morning, changing to a moderate south-westerly in the afternoon. Early morning fog cleared at 7 a.m. and by afternoon, the skies were partly cloudy. The maximum temperature at Harewood on Saturday was 49 degrees, re-1 corded at 2 p.m.
Citrus Fruit Shining
The natural wax film on citrus fruit is removed in washing, but it can be restored by coating the fruit with a synthetic high-gloss coating that will improve appearance and ensure freshness, says the industrial bulletin of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. A special formulation of this wax is available for spraying or brush coating tomatoes, cucumbers, and the like. The ingredients have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, but intending New Zealand users are advised to seek the approval of the Department of Agriculture. Toys In Hospital Long - term geriatric patients, members of the Burwood Hospital Friendship Club, were last week shown by Mr R. H. Stillwell, batteryoperated toy figures he brought back from Japan. In a letter to the editor of “The Press.” Mr Stillwell congratulated Miss G. W. Gainsford. an occupational therapist, for initially suggesting the club. Bridge TV Trial A trial television camera will be installed on the Auckland harbour bridge soon to test the efficiency of closedcircuit television for traffic control. The general manager of the bridge authority (Mr R. L Wilks) said that the camera was for trials only, and the authority did not intend to buy any equipment until it had made comprehensive tests! and was satisfied with the re-’ suits.
