Jen Hai Runs Steadily

“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. A steady run over about a mile and a quarter by the Sir Thomas Duncan Challenge Cup contender, Jen Hai, was the feature of yesterday’s fast work at Woodville. The going 24ft from the rails on the course proper was wet after overnight rain. Jen Hai will spell after the Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meeting, and then be prepared for the big spring cup races in Australia. Galloping evenly from the mile, Jen Hai accelerated to complete the distance in Imin 54Jsec, the last six in Imin 25jsee in spite of a rigorous season. His trainer, S. A. Brown, intends to turn him out tomorrow if he is successful. If not, he probably will run again on Monday on the second day of the fixture.

That’s For Sure was impressive in a run from the end of the straight. He accelerated near the end, and ran home single-handed in Imin 25 4-ssec, a gallop which must give him a chance in the Stayers’ Hack Handicap tomorrow. Over the final three furlongs in 43 2-ssec That’s For Sure had a good deal in reserve. He is fitter now than at any earlier stage of his career.
