Cancelled Radio Talk
Sir, —The cancellation of Professor Herd’s “Point of View” talk on Monday evening gave listeners a veryforceful reminder as to the true state of the “independence” the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation has in relation to the Government. It is with anticipation 1 look forward to Mr Maguire’s new series—“A Balanced Point of View.”— Yours, etc., ANDREW J. McNEILL. June 2, 1965. Sir.—What’s this we hear from Mr Holyoake about the opposition in Communist countries not being able to voice their opposition to the Government? Professor Herd must have been surprised to find he lived under a Communist regime.—Yours, etc., lAN MERRETT. June 3, 1965. Sir, —Your three correspondents objecting to the cancellation of the radio talk fail to realise that when any country is committed to military action, it is imperative that the dissemination of news or opinions, either published or broadcast, must be subject to strict censorship.— Yours, etc., SETH NEWELL. June 3. 1965.
