MAKING RAIN FALL
M.P. A ‘Voice In Wilderness’ (From Our Own Reporter! TIMARU, June 2. He was a “voice in the wilderness” and would appreciate any support members cared to give, the member of Parliament for Waitaki (Mr A. D. Dick) told the annual conference of South Canterbury Federated Farmers. He was speaking about a Pleasant Point remit which urged that the Government be urged to investigate and carry out any research necessary to introduce artificial rain-making. The remit was carried. Mr L. W. Redhead mentioned the dry conditions existing throughout Canterbury last year. He said a successful conclusion to rainmaking investigations would not mean the answer to every drought, but if relief could be given occasionally in some areas it would be some help. Mr Dick said that since a drought in North Otago he had “exhausted" the D.S.I.R. and his efforts were now directed to the Meteorologies. Office. A reply from the office was awaited.
