Police Recruiting Cadets For 1966

The police hope to recruit 80 to 90 cadets for the January, 1966, intake. The cadets will be selected in October from those applying this year and application must be made to the recruiting officer at the Christchurch Central Police Station no later than August. All careers advisers at secondary schools have been supplied with the latest information on police cadetships. Applicants must be between 17 and 181 years of age ph February 1, 1966. They must be sft BJin tall and have a normal chest measurement of 34in. They must sit a police pre-entry education test and must be of good repute and character. Police cadets while in training are paid a salary of £520 to £665, according to age. The course at the Police Training School, Trentham, is for 19 months and includes training in police law and practice, evidence, arrest, accidents, crime, crowd control and court procedure. Education in English, social studies and projects is also given. Search And Rescue A cadet is taught typing, first aid, basic arms training physical training and gymnasium work with apparatus, including weights and trampoline. He is also given search and rescue instruction, including 10 days in the Tara- ; ruas under trained men. ■ Duties at police stations are i also included, under supervision, in the C. 1.8., prosecui tions, car patrols and beats ■ and visits to courts, fire sta- ■ tions and racecourses.
