RACING Bon Voyage Leads ’Chase All The Way

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) NEW PLYMOUTH. Heading the field all the way in extremely heavy going, the Opunake-owned Bon Voyage had a two length margin at the post in the Inglewood Handicap, first leg of the double at the Taranaki Jockey Club and Taranaki Hunt Clubs’ combined steeplechase meeting at New Plymouth on Saturday.

Always among the front runners, the northerner, Dashing Star, was four lengths clear of the third horse, El Khebira, which had been second into the straight.

Outspan, an acceptor for the second leg of the double, the Members’ Handicap, was found to be lame by his trainer, H. G. Webby. Outspan had been pricked while being plated.

Outspan was give an injection to deaden the pain in an attempt to get the horse to the races.

The judicial committee was told of this by the stipendiary steward, who was acting on an instruction from the Racing Conference that all steps should be taken to prevent from racing a horse known to have had a medicinal preparation administered. After a statement was made by the veterinary surgeon, Mr S. L. Whyte, and Webby to the committee, Webby scratched Outspan.
