N.Z.-MADE WIRE

Complaints By Farmers

The quality of New Zea-land-made fencing wire was discussed at a meeting of the North Canterbury provincial executive of Federated Farmers yesterday. The executive approved a remit from its Sheffield branch protesting at “the poor quality of the wire."

Mr A. F. Wright, vicechairman of the meat and wool section of the province, said that in the Sheffield district there had been complaints about the wrapping or binding of the wire so that when it reached a farm it was “knocked about considerably” and would not feed out on the fence line. There were also regular complaints of wire breaking under strain. Mr A. L. Mulholland said he had heard of a case of barbed wire made from local wire that had broken under strain. “1 cannot think of anything more dangerous," he said.
