TIMARU, May 26. South Canterbury made a brilliant start to its representative Rugby programme today when it '.ounced North Otago. 18-9, in a Hannan Shield match at Timaru. The half-time score was 13-6. The former All Black, I. S. T. Smith, scored two brilliant tries for North Otago. Smith, playing at centre, was on top form and outclassed the opposing three-quarters. North Otago’s other points came from a penalty goal by P. Ford.
The South Canterbury centre, B. Gardiner, scored two fine tries and the halfback, A. Millar, went round the side of the scrum to score another.
The other points came from three conversions and a penalty kicked by the South Canterbury forward, B. Beardsley.
