FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression near Northland is moving slowly eastwards. A ridge of high pressure lies across the South Island. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds: areas of low cloud or fog persisting in some coastal places; becoming partly cloudy by afternoon in most inland areas; moderate afternoon temperatures away from the coast. Outlook: cloudy with scattered drizzle.

Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate variable winds; partly cloudy and rather mild, apart from areas of low cloud or fog at first and isolated showers later about - the ranges. Outlook: scattered showers.

Buller and Westland.—-Moderate variable winds; partly cloudy with some areas of fog at first; scattered showers in the afternoon; moderate temperatures. Outlook: scattered showers.
