ORGANISTS TO MEET

Christchurch Venue

About 60 members of the New Zealand Association of Organists will hold their fourth Dominion congress in Christchurch at Queen’s Birthday week-end. There will be business sessions, addresses. recitals, church services, and an official dinner. Mr Malcolm Boyle, who is visiting New Zealand as examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, will be the guest speaker and organist. Mr Boyle was sub-organist of St. George’s Chapel and the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle until 1932, when he became organist and master of choristers at Chester Cathedral. He relinquished this post in 1949 to become director of music at the King’s School, Canterbury. He was a lecturer in music at Nottingham University and later at Manchester University. Mr Boyle has also been conductor of the Royal Amateur Orchestral Society, London, and the Royal Windsor and Eton Orchestral Society, and judged musical festivals in all parts of Britain. He has given many organ recitals and talks for the 8.8. C.

Mr Boyle will give the main congress recitals in the Christchurch Cathedral on the Sunday afternoon and also a lecture-recital on extemporisation at the Durham Street Methodist Church on the Saturday. He will be the main speaker at the congress dinner.
