World Food Supply
Sir,—A documentary on the conditions of the people in India ended with the remark: “The old system has failed; have we tried the new?” President Johnson says he has declared war ui poverty. At the same time, his Government is prosecuting farmers for growing more wheat than is allowed by law. The president’s statement would sound more impressive if he encouraged his farmers to produce as much wheat as possible. He could then send the wheat to these starving people who have no money to pay. This is how the new system would work. —Yours, etc., FARM HAND. May 26, 1965.
