NEW SUMNER LIFEBOAT

Nine Years To

Raise Money

The Sumner Lifeboat League felt that it would be in a position in nine years to buy a new lifeboat, said the secretary of the lifeboat crew (Mr W. J. Baguley) at the crew’s annual general meeting last evening. The lifeboat’s coxwain (Mr J. Kerr) said in an interview that the league was trying to raise funds to buy a new lifeboat about 37ft—a little bigger than the present Rescue 11.

The cost for a new boat, he said, would be about £30,000. By the time the proposed new boat was bought, the present lifeboat would be 44 years old. Mr Kerr said he was not certain of the amount of funds in hand towards a new lifeboat but it was about £2OOO.
