BEST YOUNG PLAYERS
Curtain-Raiser To Soccer
Twenty-four of the best young soccer players in Canterbury will provide the cur-tain-raiser to the sixth match of the 8.0.A.C. round-robin series between the two English professional clubs. Sheffield United and Blackpool, at English Park on Saturday. The boys, aged between 12 and 14, form the first group who have been attending coaching classes under the provincial coach, Mr R. C. Carter, since the beginning of the year. Several played in last season’s highly successful Canterbury under 12 team which won the South Island tourna ment, and then went to Wellington and beat the North Island champion, Hutt Valley, in an unofficial national fnal. The two teams are:—
Whites.—D. Smith (Western): G. Skerton (Wanderers), G. Tait (Western); T. Haydon Western), P. Robertson (Wanderers), D Mansbridge (Western): B. Stevens (Shamrock), A. Marley (Brighton). G. Storer (Technical). A. Aitchlson (Brighton). P Clark (Technical).
Reds.—L. Wilson (Wanderers); t>. Hall (Rangers). D. Brooks (Technical): R. Smith (Western). S. Woods (Shamrock), K. Squire (Wanderers); P. Whelan (Rangers), M. Beaumont (Wanderers). M. Lawson (Shamrock), C. Wiltshire (Hornby). W. Reece (Technical).
Changes will be made at halftime to allow C. Price (Brighton) and P. Mitchell (Wanderers) to play.
The curtain-raiser will start at 1 pm.
