CIVIC TRUST

Incorporation Today

A Christchurch Civic Trust will be incorporated today after a meeting at which 16 signatories approved a constitution last evening.

This provides for the trust to pursue objects, earlier stated by the sponsors, of fostering aesthetic values, preserving historic buildings, improving architecture, and generally encouraging greater public Interest in local amenities. The constitution is modelled on those of civic trusts in England, where the movement started nearly 10 years ago with specifically local objects complementing the work of national historic places trusts. The Christchurch Civic Trust will hold another meeting soon to set up committees and determine its first project.
