Fair Inquiry For Lamb
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 21. Trading in meat on London’s Smithfield Market this week began quietly because of warm weather, but improved from mid-week onwards, according to the Meat Board Market Information Service.
In spite of fair inquiry for New Zealand lamb, a considerable rise in stocks in store have resulted in weak quotations. Quotations for the main grade, 29-361 b, were id down on last week’s figures. There was dull trading in New Zealand mutton with hoggets and wethers in very short supply at nominal prices. Ewes were in greater supply, selling with a weak undertone. Wether mutton was quoted at 17|d per lb and ewe mutton at 14jd per lb. New Zealand chilled beef sold slowly with hinds 32d to 33d per lb and fores 20d per lb.

WELLINGTON, May 21. Net overseas assets of the New Zealand banking system on May 12 were £80.5m, compared with £78.9m on May 5 and £97,9m on May 13 last year.
These figures were announced today by the Reserve Bank.
