TO JUDGE AT DANNEVIRKE
An internationally recognised beef cattle man, Mr Ed Fowler, of Bedford, Indiana, United States, has accepted an invitation to judge at this year’s national Aberdeen Angus bull show and sale at Dannevirke on September 20, 21 and 22. Mr Fowler is a herd and sale consultant who has judged at many major United States cattle shows and has prepared several international champion bulls for showing by leading American stud herds. He has made six visits to Scotland to select top quality breeding stock for leading United States herds and has carried out two previous buying missions in New Zealand. Mr Fowler was in charge of the first Pan Angus sale, which was a consignment of pedigree cattle bred in the United States and Canada and sent by air to Argentina where the sale was held. The Dannevirke bull show and sale this year has been extended to three days. This is because of the growing im-
portance of the sale, which draws entries from foundation herds all over New Zealand, and the need for proriding adequate time for judging of the various classes and inspection by prospective buyers before the actual sales. An innovation this year will be a grand parade of all
prize winners and the show classes have been extended to divide yearling bulls into about five equal classes according to calving dates. The led two-year-old bulls, providing there are more than 20 entries, will be divided into two classes according to age. Judging will take place on Monday. September 20, and the grand parade will be held at 10 a.m. on the Tuesday. The sale of led bulls will begin at 12 noon following the grand parade.
