COACHING SCHOOL
Young S.I. Athletes
A coaching school for
young South Island athletes between the ages of 15 and 18 wiU be held in Christchurch in September, Mr P. D. Brown told a meeting of the Canterbury Athletic Centre last evening.
Mr Brown said the Canterbury Coaches’ Association recently had been resurrected and this would be its first major venture. “We will have leading coaches from all over New Zealand coming down and the Department of Internal Affairs has agreed to help with the travelling costs of the athletes. “It is a big undertaking but it should prove worthwhile,” said Mr Brown. The centre will not support the decision of the New Zealand association to become an incorporated society unless a solicitor first peruses the rules that will make up the society’s constitution. Mr E. Lunn said he knew the New Zealand association was anxious to have the incorporation completed but haste was no reason for not having the rules checked.
“At present we can change the rules quite easily but if we become incorporated then it will be much more difficult,” he added. “We have been advised the Agfa tour of 1964 will show a loss,” said the chairman (Mr W. A. Kennedy). “Canterbury and Southland apparently made a profit from their meetings but they were the only ones. Auckland, I gather, made a loss of about £9OO. “I wonder if there was a loading of expenses there?”
Referee.— The New Zealand referee, Mr W. Dow, will control the St. George-Parramatta first grade Rugby match in Sydney on Saturday. Mr Dow has refereed provincial matches in New Zealand.
