SCRUTINY OF JOBS

B.M.A. Has Right

The Ashburton Hospital Board recently asked the New Zealand branch of the B.M.A. whether the association had the right to “post” hospital medical positions. A reply received at yesterday’s board meeting from the chairman of the council of the association (Dr. N. C. Begg) said that, in certain special circumstances, the 8.M.A., particularly the parent body in Britain, reserved the right to advise applicants for any position to confer with the head office before accepting the appointment. It further reserved the right to refuse advertising space in the British Medical Journal if there was evidence that the post was unsuitable in any way.

“Although the New Zealand branch has the same right and would no doubt use it under certain circumstances, it has not been necessary to do this very often,” Dr. Begg said.
