New Zealand’s first gas-tur-bine electricity generator will be installed at Shoal Bay, on the North Shore, about the middle of next month. The 6000 kilowatt turbine being built in Canada for the Waitemata Electric Power Board is nearing completion. The chief engineer (Mr C. C. Gray) said today the turbine, which was costing about £200,000 would be taken from the ship to the site by floating crane. Workmen have finished pouring the massive concrete slab on which the turbine will be mounted. It will stand in the open with the electric generators, attached to the rear end.
