Sir, —According to the magazine, “Time,” President Johnson snapped: “I will not have another Cuba in the Caribbean.” Then, after orders went out to the military forces, he explained his decision to the nation. “I have ordered the Secretary of Defence to put the necessary American troops ashore in order to give protection to hundreds of Americans. . . Margaret Thorn is right; American purpose is plain. But the story told, even to the American nation, is no less cynical than the official version of the protection of the Sudeten neople from the Czechs.
