QUEEN’S APPEAL
Speculation On Romance (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter- —Copyright > THE HAGUE. May 6. Crown Princess Beatrix flies to London this morning amidst fresh speculation on her marriage plans. This was touched off by a surprise announcement last night by her parents, Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard. In an “urgent appeal” to the Dutch people, they said rumours about a speedy announcement of the 27-year-old Princess’s engagement - were premature. '
“We make an urgent appeal to you all to give her the peace and the time in a matter like this in order to take a well-considered decision," their statement said. .A well-informed source said the statement indicated that the Crown Princess has a serious suitor, but that premature publicity might endanger their relationship. Princess Beatrix will attend the christening of her godchild, the daughter of Princess Margrethe of Sweden and the London businessman, Mr John Ambler. Prince William of Gloucester and Mr Nicholas Tollemache, 23-year-old son of Lord Tollemache, have been frequently named as possible suitors forthe Princess.
